Martha Peters is a native Spanish speaker from Mexico who brings more than 25 years of joyful, student-centered language instruction to the Piñon Tutoring community.

She earned an M.A. in Romance Languages and Spanish Literature and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

She comes to Albuquerque from Austin, where she taught Spanish at Headwaters School and Kirby Hall School. At Headwaters, she taught students from kindergarten through high school, including introductory Spanish through Spanish V and Spanish B Standard Level and Higher Level in the International Baccalaureate program. At Kirby Hall, she taught Spanish to students in fourth grade through middle school and served as Dean of Curriculum and Department Head.

Her experience also includes teaching adults in community college continuing education programs, providing private instruction to young students and business executives, and developing Spanish curricula for new and redesigned programs.

Her lessons are dynamic, engaging, and welcoming to many kinds of learners. She loves fostering a connection with Spanish and its diverse cultures through games, movement, songs, dance, and other activities that bring learning to life.

Señora Peters and her husband, Michael Webber, are celebrating 37 years together this summer! They have a daughter, a son, and three grand cats.
