Alex Preston grew up in North Carolina where he spent his childhood exploring forests and asking lots of questions. Combining his passions of the outdoors and STEM, Alex studied Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University earning both undergraduate and Master's degrees. While at university, Alex discovered his passion for teaching by helping his peers with STEM classes.

 

After graduation, Alex worked with the EPA and local environmental advocacy groups on air quality research. He also enjoyed being a mentor to High School engineering students, teaching them air quality principles and ideas for solving complex real-world problems. This involved identifying gaps in knowledge, targeted one-on-one instruction to build comprehension, and practical problem-solving to improve long-term retention. Alex always approaches this work with patience, empathy and respect.

 

Alex believes strongly that all students have what it takes to succeed in STEM classes. Because every student is unique, Alex utilizes a variety of different learning styles to ensure that each student's needs are met.

 

In his free time, Alex enjoys birdwatching, playing guitar, rock climbing and spending time with his partner.
